Plusieurs mentions des mains dans Les Trachiniennes mettent en valeur l’expression gestuelle des comédiens. Le moment culminant de cette gestuelle est le serment à Hercule prononcé par Hyllus dans l’exode. De la violence, ce thème évolue vers l’ordre social et le rituel. La poignée de mains qui scelle le serment d’Hyllus s’oppose au cadeau fatal de Déjanire à Hercule, cadeau qui est l’oeuvre de plusieurs paires de mains.
