Abstract
Au début du XX e siècle, la tradition locale situait l’Académie de Platon dans les environs de l’église d’Ayios Tryphon et des hauteurs de Hippios Kolonos. Dans les années 30, de généreux donateurs, Panayotis et Joanna Aristophron, ont défrayé les fouilles entreprises pour retrouver l’école de Platon. Cet article offre le premier compte-rendu de ces fouilles effectuées de 1929 à 1940 en s’appuyant sur les rapports annuels des écoles étrangères à Athènes et sur trois sources « nouvelles », à savoir les rapports du Secrétaire de l’Académie, les rapports inédits des fouilles Aristophron et des articles parus dans les journaux contemporains.
