Abstract
To say that Edward Said occasioned a great number of Western scholars to view the Palestinian issue in a fairly measured fashion is to state the obvious indeed. Not only was Said a formidable intellectual force to be reckoned with, but he also succeeded in being a catalyst who helped move the cause along, becoming quite instrumental in shaping the Western debate over Palestine through the better part of the previous three decades. To some extent, almost single-handedly, he was able to affect the fairly entrenched terms of the debate, question and modify its prevailing terminology, and provide a more favourable context for the relevant discourse, one that acknowledged the yet unexplored Palestinian narrative as a legitimate complement—if not outright alternative—to the received wisdom of years past.
