Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Studying subaqueous volcanic centres is still a costly and logistically complicated endeavor. The study of exposed ancient sequences on land eliminates these obstacles and edifices are often eroded in such a manner that a cross-section through the edifice is visible. Vertically-dipping Archean strata allow for the study of synvolcanic structures and the internal architecture of subaqueous volcanic complexes. The Abitibi greenstone belt in Canada, and specifically the Blake River Group, hosts numerous subaqueous volcanic centres including the Blake River Megacaldera complex (BRMCC). Three caldera structures are found within the BRMCC: the host Misema Caldera and the nested and overlapping New Senator and Noranda Calderas. Of particular interest is the southeastern sector of the New Senator Caldera (SNSC) and its proximal association to the 54 Mt Horne Au-rich volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposit. \nDetailed mapping of intrusive and volcanic facies, along with site-specific geochemical and geochronological analysis at selected outcrop localities throughout the SNSC allow for the identification of individual eruptive and intrusive events. These events dominantly produced effusive mafic lavas and intrusions with intermittent felsic deposits. With the use of structural data and the geometry of synvolcanic dykes, volcanic and intrusive facies are grouped into “internal” and “external” blocks. These blocks compose a volcanic complex known as the Rouyn-Pelletier Caldera Complex (RPCC). This study predominantly constrains the Pelletier, Senator and Glenwood blocks but also defines boundaries and facies of the Chadbourne, Horne and Stadacona blocks and places the Horne deposit within the architecture of the RPCC. \nVoluminous mafic lavas and intrusions of the Pelletier block represent the terminal stages of seamount construction and compose the first caldera floor. Following emplacement of these facies, a trapdoor collapse event allows for the emplacement of mafic ponded lavas that compose the majority of the Senator block. Piecemeal-type faulting follows this event and permits the extrusion and intrusion of facies of the Glenwood block, dominated by the Glenwood Felsic Flow Complex. These deposits form yet another caldera floor as the complex continues to build and shallow. Shallowing of the edifice permits a shift to more explosive activity that is one of the waning phases of caldera development and represented by volcanic facies of the Horne deposit.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
