Abstract
Les étapes successives de la carrière du grand serviteur de l’État qu’était Hubert Curien sont rappelées en détaillant plus particulièrement la première, qui va de sa jeunesse vosgienne à sa nomination comme directeur scientifique au CNRS en 1966. Résistance, École normale supérieure, thèse préparée sous la direction de J. Laval au Laboratoire de minéralogie-cristallographie de la Sorbonne et soutenue en 1951, assistant, puis professeur d’université. Ses principaux travaux de recherche en physique et en cristallographie sont évoqués. Des encarts précisent les souvenirs qu’il a laissés comme chercheur et président du Conseil de l’université de technologie de Compiègne.
