Mammillaria mystax es una cactacea globosa endemica de Mexico, se localiza en Guerrero, Oaxaca y Puebla, se utiliza como ornamental y se encuentra en el Apendice II del cites. Se evaluaron los parametros demograficos de una poblacion de la especie en Canada Morelos, Puebla y se determino la tasa de crecimiento poblacional por medio del modelo matricial de Lefkovitch. La densidad fue de 0.046 individuos/m2 , los individuos adultos fueron los mas abundantes y las plantulas constituyeron la menor proporcion. Las plantas presentaron crecimiento lento y alta supervivencia. El periodo reproductivo se observo de octubre a julio y la germinacion fue escasa. La tasa de crecimiento (l=1.15+0.25) indica que la poblacion esta en equilibrio; sin embargo, la baja densidad, una estructura de tamanos constituida en su mayoria por adultos, escasa germinacion de semillas y baja supervivencia de plantulas sugieren que esta especie puede ser vulnerable a la extincion
