Abstract
Europe delayed a decision on a preferred site to host the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), a $5bn experiment to prove the feasibility of fusion as an energy source, until the end of this month. Canada, France, Japan and Spain have all put forward bids to host the device, which is due to come online in 2014. EU ministers were supposed to decide between the French and Spanish sites at a meeting at the end of September, but the decision has now been delayed until 27 November.
