Abstract
Le logement social public de type HLM accueille une proportion importante de jeunes. Cette proportion est particulièrement élevée dans les ensembles de logements sociaux destinés aux familles. On note en effet un déclin de la taille moyenne et du nombre moyen d’enfants par ménage à Montréal dans le courant des dernières décennies. Les jeunes qui vivent en HLM expérimentent également des réalités spécifiques liées aux caractéristiques des milieux résidentiels et familiaux dans lesquels ils grandissent. Le logement social accueille principalement des ménages dont les revenus sont faibles ou modestes. Les jeunes y sont donc exposés à la précarité économique et à ses conséquences sur le bien-être et la qualité de vie des familles. Pour ces différentes raisons, l’Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal (OMHM) mène et soutient depuis de nombreuses années des interventions pour favoriser le développement social et communautaire des jeunes qui résident dans ses logements.
