Abstract
Een zes jaar oude gecastreerde vrouwelijke Labrador retriever werd in de Universiteitskliniek aangeboden met klachten die reeds tien dagen speelden. Deze klachten bestonden uit sloomheid, verminderde eetlust, braken, diarree en pollakisurie. Op het moment van verwijzing waren de klinische verschijnselen depressie, anorexia, braken, diarree, afwezigheid van anusreflex, tenesmus, dysurie, verminderde traanproductie, afwezigheid van pupilreflexen, mydriasis, beiderzijdse protrusie van het derde ooglid, enopthalmus en droge slijmvliezen. Het bloedonderzoek leverde geen afwijkingen op. Röntgendiagnostiek van het abdomen bracht slechts een vergrote milt aan het licht. Op dat moment wees het klinisch beeld op een autonome dysfunctie. Het vermoeden van autonome dysfunctie werd ondersteund met de positieve pilocarpine oogtest en een subnormale Schimmer tear test. Daar er geen klinische verbetering optrad, moest helaas gekozen worden voor euthanasie. De diagnose dysautonomie werd nadien bevestigd aan de hand van histopathologisch onderzoek.
