Abstract
L’utilité des recherches scientifiques pour les mouvements sociaux n’est pas évidente. Non seulement les données statistiques ne sont pas adaptées pour répondre aux questions soulevées par les mouvements sociaux mais en plus la production scientifique obéit à des procédures qui entrent en contradiction avec la logique de l’action collective. Dans ce sens il est important de distinguer entre les fonctions intellectuelles qui doivent être assumées dans le cadre d’une action collective et le travail scientifique proprement dit. En effet si les intellectuels des mouvements collectifs doivent gérer les ambiguïtés et les équivoques inhérentes à l’action collective le rôle du chercheur est plutôt de les dissiper.
