Il existe trois grands ensembles modernes construits à la périphérie de la ville de Genève au cours des années soixante dans lesquels les habitants ont décidé de faire la grève des loyers pour protester contre de trop fortes hausses. L’intérêt de ces luttes est que ces grèves se sont produites dans les secteurs HLM de ces cités satellites, dans des immeubles qui souvent appartiennent à des syndicats ouvriers. Les habitants se sont donc trouvés, pour plusieurs d’entre eux, en conflit direct dans le domaine de la vie hors travail avec les organisations ouvrières auxquelles ils sont affiliés comme travailleurs. L’article décrit la lutte, discute du rapport entre les luttes dans les lieux de production et les luttes visant à l’amélioration des conditions de la vie quotidienne et enfin analyse les rapports entre l’État et les syndicats en ce qui a trait à l’habitat.
