Abstract
The 2014 annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation was preceded by a referendum which is widely rejected by the international community due to the presence of foreign armed forces. This article investigates the legality under international law of Crimea's declaration of independence and the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation.
