"Este artigo apresenta uma introduráo conceitualadeterminaráo social da saúde. Aborda-se a determinaráo social dos indivíduos, o conceito de saúde e, na sequéncia, procura-se esclarecer a determinaráo social da saúde. A abordagem da determinaráo social dos indivíduos éapresentada a partir das obras de Hegel e Marx. O conceito de saúde édelineado apartir do campo da promoráo da saúde, estabelecido pela Carta de Ottawa e a partir dos principais indicadores de saúde. Ao abordar os conceitos presentes na determinaráo social da saúde ft-z-se uso das categorias eevidencias dentro do enfOquepsicossocialdo tema. Trata-se, portanto, de uma reflexáo sobre a centralidade do cardtersocial na determinaráo dos indivíduos e o nexo causalsociopsicológico na cadeia de determinaráo da saúde."
