Quelle éducation à la raison dans le monde d’aujourd’hui, pour le monde d’aujourd’hui? Telle est la question centrale de ce texte, qui procède en quatre temps. Après avoir montré que la raison s’entend de diverses manières dans la tradition éducative occidentale, et pris acte ensuite des effets combinés de la critique de l’humanisme universaliste rationaliste, l’auteur propose de fonder cette éducation sur une approche herméneutique et pragmatique de la raison et se montre en particulier sensible à l’interpellation politique qui loge au cœur de la question de l’éducation à la raison. Cette interpellation politique sera caractérisée sous sa forme démocratique moderne. Dans une société démocratique, l’éducation à la raison doit viser l’acquisition de la capacité à discuter, laquelle prend appui sur l’articulation des trois opérations fondamentales de la pratique du langage : la rhétorique, l’herméneutique et la poétique. L’auteur conclut en insistant sur le lien nécessaire entre l’éducation et le politique.
