Abstract
S’est développé à Montréal, depuis la fin des années 1980, un « Monde de l’art » particulier articulé autour de l’interprétation de la musique dite ancienne (de la Renaissance au début du Romantisme) sur instruments historiques. Au fil du temps, la ville est devenue un centre important en Amérique du Nord pour ce style musical. Cet article a pour but d’explorer deux aspects liés à la carrière des artistes qui évoluent dans ce monde. Il interroge une double précarité : celle inhérente à la carrière artistique, celle imposée par la spécialisation du répertoire. Cette dernière limite-t-elle les possibilités d’embauche ? Nous examinons les stratégies élaborées pour contrer cette précarité et leurs conséquences sur les temporalités professionnelles et familiales de ces artistes.
