Chez les philosophes contemporains, la question des sources de l’éthique chez l’agent ne fait pas consensus, raison ou émotion étant convoquées selon les auteurs comme modalités premières dans l’agentivité éthique qui concerne essentiellement le souci de l’autre. On examinera ici le point de vue d’éthiciens appartenant à différentes écoles de pensée : en philosophie analytique, Christine Tappolet et Bernard Williams qui accordent une place importante à l’émotion, sans exclure la raison ; chez les théoriciens de l’école de Francfort, Jürgen Habermas et Axel Honneth, le premier accordant le primat à la raison et le second, à la reconnaissance sociale sous trois formes, la reconnaissance affective en étant le fondement ; et dans la tradition herméneutique, Paul Ricoeur qui fait appel à l’estime de soi, à la sollicitude pour autrui ainsi qu’à la reconnaissance, de l’autre et mutuelle, puis à la gratitude. On verra ensuite quelles sont les implications de ces perspectives en éducation, particulièrement pour la formation des enseignants, en proposant une éthique du lien qui opte pour la complémentarité entre rationalité et sensibilité comme sources de l’agentivité éthique et quels sont les dispositifs pouvant favoriser leur développement.
