Abstract
voudrait dmontrer comment Enguerran de Monstrelet tablit un strotype du milicien flamand, au sein de sa Chronique en deux livres, et ce que cela peut signifier pour son lecteur. Pour cela, quelques-unes de ses stratgies littraires sont passes la loupe cidessous. Monstrelet se dclare continuateur de Froissart 1 , commenant son rcit o celui-ci l'arrte, en 1400. Il se rvle moins talentueux narrateur et prosateur que l'auteur hennuyer 2 . Nanmoins, la richesse factuelle et souvent vrifiable des informations de son rcit (qui s'achve en 1444 et a maintes fois t copi ou fait l'objet d'interpolations par ses contemporains 3 ), lve son oeuvre en monument de notre connaissance de l'histoire politique et militaire de la premire moiti du XV e sicle.
