Abstract
Comment écrivait-on l’histoire en 1900, dans le mouvement de bascule entre l’histoire comme une des belles-lettres et l’histoire scientifique ? Deux sources de cette époque publient en tout plus de 200 portraits de paroisses : le Bulletin des recherches historiques et Le diocèse de Montréal à la fin du dixneuvième siècle , et la mosaïque qu’ensemble ils composent est très cohérente. Ils permettent de cerner comment en 1900 on conçoit la dynamique du peuplement et l’occupation du territoire, la place relative de l’histoire politique, sociale et économique, de voir quels sont les groupes en présence, quels sont les héros et les visionnaires dans cette histoire. Se dégage de cela un imaginaire de l’espace, du progrès et des utopies territoriales. Bref, cela permet de réfléchir à l’histoire de l’histoire du Québec.
