Abstract
Vancouver, una città prevalentemente anglo-europea fino agli anni ’80, è stata progressivamente trasformata dall’arrivo di immigrati provenienti principalmente dall’est e dal sudest asiatico. Oggi, nella città di Vancouver, il 51% degli abitanti è di origine non anglosassone. Si tratta di una percentuale non paragonabile a quella di \naltre città nel mondo ad eccezione di Toronto e Miami. Questo fenomeno ha prodotto profondi cambiamenti nelle strade e nei quartieri, nelle scuole e nei negozi, nelle attività ricreative e nelle pratiche religiose. Cosa succede in una città sempre più multiculturale caratterizzata da una molteplicità di storie, culture, religioni e pratiche sociali? In che modo i nuovi arrivati, così come i membri della società ospitante, sviluppano una capacità quotidiana di vivere accanto a quelli che in modi differenti vengono percepiti come diversi? In che modo gli stranieri diventano i nostri vicini di casa?
