Abstract
Cet article fait ressortir les caractéristiques essentielles du concept de tension tel que Weber le développe dans sa sociologie de la religion. A cet effet, l’article dégage les notions de compromis, de proximité psychologique et de réflexivité que Weber associe aux tensions que la religion engendre quand elle fait face à la parenté, à l’économie, à la politique, à la sexualité, à l’art et à la rationalisation intellectuelle. Enfin, l’article montre comment le concept de tension permet d’enrichir l’interprétation de L’Ethique protestante en offrant une présentation dynamique et conflictuelle de la relation entre esprit du capitalisme et ascétisme protestant.
