O consumo de frutas e verduras na dieta est associado reduo da incidncia de doenas crnicas no transmissveis entre eles cncer, sndrome metablica e doenas cardiovasculares. A atividade biolgica atribuda ingesto desses alimentos relacionada principalmente presena de compostos bioativos, entre eles os compostos fenlicos, tais como flavonoides e elagitaninos.
