Abstract
The article researches the features of functioning of bride theft tradition of the Kabardians in the conditions of their integration into the legal system of the Russian Empire in the last quarter of the XIX c. The analysis of administrative and legal practices connected with this custom is carried out is for this purpose. The actions of Tersky region authorities relating to the problem of some customs and traditions of the Kabardians in the sphere of family relations reception are studied. The conclusion is made that these processes had caused the certain transformations of gender relations in the traditional Kabardian society.
