Abstract
Il y a quatre siècles, l'Angleterre et la France posaient à Jamestown, en Virginie (1607), et à Québec, au Canada (1608), les jalons de leur présence sur le continent américain. L'Amérique du Nord a été dominée dès le xviie siècle par la rivalité chronique entre l'Angleterre et la France qui ont transporté leurs conflits outre-Atlantique. Au siècle suivant, le traité de Paris entérinait en 1763 l'abandon par la France du Canada, mais était suivi d'une revanche éclatante lors de la guerre d'indépendance américaine. Cet ouvrage explore la diversité constitutive de la jeune nation américaine, à la veille même de son indépendance. Pour chacun des " actes fondateurs " évoqués, les auteurs ont pris en compte l'aspect réaliste et le versant mythique, voire commémoratif. Les réussites comme les échecs. Les rêves et les réalités.
