Abstract
L’exposition Les Premieres Nations dans Charlevoix et dans l’art quebecois , exhibited at the Musee de Charlevoix, provided an opportunity to explore the collaboration between a regional museum institution and First Nations in Quebec. This analysis of the decision-making that shaped the exhibit, allows us to examine two processes: the tradional museum practice at a regional level, and a new practice of museology in collaboration with Aboriginal people. Analyzing this exhibit project in a fair, honest, and balanced way is a challenge, each party having invested different interests in the project, which takes place in a complex political setting. The intersection of the two approaches raises questions that are difficult to address, but it is precisely because they are difficult that they need to be addressed.
