Abstract
We describe behaviours and interactions resulting from the introduction of an instant messaging system in two Canadian firms. We identify the emergence of a new communicational genre that we call « quick questions ». These quick questions are used to reaffirm personal ties and professional solidarity at a distance. The development of these types of cooperation based on « quick questions » represents an original connection between real and prescribed work, linking concerns for achieving objectives with networks of colleagues helping each other. This development is at the heart of the moral economy of highly connected contemporary organizations .
