Suite à un texte paru dans le Soleil le 7 avril 2016 intitulé « L’avenir contraint de l’énergie éolienne au Québec » (Saucier et al., 2016), huit chercheurs du Collectif scientifique sur la question du gaz de schiste, se questionnent sur l'ambition et les orientations stratégiques de la Politique énergétique du Québec (PEQ) 2030 en matière de transport. Les auteurs partent du constat que le Québec prévoit d'importants surplus d'électricité renouvelable (8,3 TWh par an jusqu'en 2023) et que ce potentiel serait largement suffisant pour décarboniser totalement le parc automobile. Pourtant, malgré les beaux objectifs de la PEQ 2030, aucune vision et aucun plan concret de déploiement structuré ne sont proposés par le gouvernement pour y parvenir. Pourquoi le Québec ne développe-t-il pas un plan d'électrification des transports responsable, ambitieux et novateur comme il a su s'affirmer il y a cinquante ans, lorsqu'il a décidé de déployer sa filière hydroélectrique ? Telle est la question de fond posée dans cet article.
