L’île de Thanet, située à l’extrémité nord-est du comté de Kent, en Grande-Bretagne, a connu trois vagues d’investissements depuis le début du siècle. Après avoir dégagé les diverses phases de la restructuration économique de l’île, les auteurs présentent les initiatives de promotion économique prises par les autorités politiques, en particulier l’aide à l’industrie touristique et le développement du port, et leurs effets dans le milieu. L’analyse vise à cerner l’impact des politiques locales de développement, c’est-à-dire leur capacité d’infléchir la structure socio-économique existante.
