Abstract
Les francophones du Canada vivent dans des environnements linguistiques diversifiés et doivent donc composer avec des contraintes et des conditions spécifiques. Ces particularités impliquent une variété de situations et proscrivent l’application d’un projet unique de développement des communautés. L’article propose une classification des communautés francophones qui tient compte des nombreuses réalités vécues. S’appuyant sur les données du recensement, une typologie de sept catégories est proposée : communautés traditionnelles, diversifiées, assimilées, volatiles, globales, cosmopolites et anglophones. Les spécificités statistiques et les distributions géographiques de chacune des catégories y sont présentées.
