Abstract
Le recul du syndicalisme en France a pris des proportions alarmantes. Les explications renvoient habituellement à des facteurs externes comme la crise économique et à des facteurs internes comme la nature même de l’action syndicale. Un examen critique de ces causes montre que, sans être négligeables, elles sont loin de rendre compte de l’ampleur du phénomène. En fait, la crise durable du syndicalisme révèle les changements de fond qui travaillent la société française. Ainsi, après avoir considéré l’impact de la crise économique, l’auteur examine des facteurs plus spécifiques au mouvement syndical français, notamment les processus de division et de politisation à l’intérieur du mouvement syndical, la forme que prend la montée de l’individualisme et, surtout, la crise de la socialisation politique de gauche.
