Abstract
Les récits de vie des célibataires qui ont participé à une étude sur les déterminants de la fécondité révèlent une double cassure dans les liens sociaux : dans l’ordre des échanges amoureux, les hommes affectent un détachement affectif; dans l’ordre générationnel, ils se libèrent de leur histoire familiale en rompant avec les exigences de la réciprocité. Ces témoignages sont l’indice d’un malaise profond dans les relations entre les sexes et entre les générations; mais on y discerne une expansion des liens sociaux axés sur le développement de l’autonomie du sujet, qui se confond souvent avec le progrès de son individualisme.
