Alors que la majorité des internautes n’ont pas ou peu de compétences techniques, nous cherchons à voir dans quelle mesure les usages qui sont faits d’un réseau social en ligne sont originaux. C’est ainsi que l’analyse de 742 messages publiés dans quatre groupes Facebook créés au lendemain de décès inattendus permet de mettre en relief que, bien que les contributeurs aux groupes de deuil usent du dispositif technique tel que prévu, une certaine créativité se dégage des pratiques sociales observables. Nous verrons ainsi que, s’ajoutant aux rites existants, la communication en ligne, favorisée par la médiatisation de l’interface numérique et la médiation créée par le fait d’adresser ses propos au défunt, semble participer au processus de deuil des principaux contributeurs.
