Abstract
La modification du rapport à la spatialité et à la temporalité qui accompagne l’avènement des nouvelles technologies de télécommunication fait en sorte que, désormais, le corps occupe de plus en plus d’espace, tandis que l’existence d’une âme immatérielle est mise en doute. S’ensuit la nécessité de vivre au présent, à la fois source de plaisir et d’angoisse. En partant de l’origine du dualisme corps-esprit dans la philosophie occidentale et en passant par le paradigme monothéiste judéo-chrétien pour arriver au paradigme évolutionniste, nous verrons comment le bouleversement de notre compréhension du rapport entre corps et esprit peut avoir des incidences sur la clinique. Nous insisterons plus particulièrement sur le vacillement de la notion d’espoir. Sur cette base, et en évitant la terminologie habituelle (névrotique, état-limite, pervers, etc.), nous décrirons diverses dispositions envers la psychothérapie qui amènent à reconsidérer le rôle du clinicien. En effet, ce dernier, plutôt que de chercher à favoriser la levée du refoulement, pourrait parfois au contraire permettre celui-ci. Nous terminerons cette réflexion en discutant du coût psychique associé à l’« incarnation au présent », à l’absence d’un ailleurs métaphysique où se projeter, s’imaginer. En ce début du xxie siècle, comment poursuivre la quête de sens dans un monde vécu comme essentiellement matière ?
