L’éducation préscolaire au Québec : bilan et perspectives

Abstract
In this paper, we do notice a compensatory function to the preschool education in Québec. We then distinguish the conditions in which the day care centers (todlers and early childhood) and the kindergarten (4 to 5 years old kids) emerged as two complementary type of services, especially by the mid eightees. If complementary, their educational missions are different and we do emphacize on this difference. We also briefly describe and analyze the evolution of the epistemological basis of the successive versions of the Québec’s preschool education curriculum from 1981 to nowadays, making a specific point with the main challenges that are specific to the kindergarten within ongoing the curricular reform process. We finish this paper reflecting on the various problems that a better articulation between the preschool and the elementary education is presenting, particularly by not exclusively for the preservice teachers education.
