Abstract

The article is devoted to the customs authorities’ combating smuggling of timber and lumber in the Far East of Russia at the end of the nineteenth and first quarter of the twentieth century. The article dwells on the development of the timber export during that period, as well as on the main reasons for smuggling of timber forest products and the Far East customs institutions’ activities on detection and suppression of illegal timber export. The author introduces into scientific circulation of archival materials from the State Archive of the Russian Federation and Russian State Archive of Economy.
