Voici un ouvrage qui traite de l'volution rcente de l'emploi et de la scurit sociale, ainsi que du statut du travailleur salari d'aujourd'hui. L'ouvrage pose la question de savoir si la condition salariale, dans le contexte des mutations de l'conomie et du dprissement de l'tat Providence, se trouve dans une situation de rgression. L'auteur note que les crises successives ont donn lieu nombre de licenciements, de dlocalisations et autres formes de cessations d'activit. Du coup, le chmage augmente, et dpasse largement les situations observes au cours de la priode dite des trente glorieuses .
