Abstract
Les programmes d’immigration économique sélectionnent les immigrants pour leur capacité perçue à intégrer le marché du travail canadien. Toutefois, ces programmes évaluent essentiellement les demandeurs principaux, qui sont surtout des hommes. Ces derniers cherchent à amener leurs conjointes et leurs enfants à charge. La présente étude examine les caractéristiques et les résultats sur le marché du travail des femmes qui sont arrivées à titre de conjointes de demandeurs principaux de la catégorie de l’immigration économique (catégorie économique). Leurs caractéristiques et les résultats observés sont comparés à ceux d’autres immigrants de la catégorie économique (demandeurs principaux de sexe masculin, féminin et conjoints masculins) et à ceux de femmes mariées qui sont arrivées dans la catégorie du regroupement familial (catégorie de la famille). La présente étude repose sur le couplage des données de l’Enquête nationale auprès des ménages de 2011 et celles de la base de données du Fichier des immigrants reçus. Elle est axée sur les immigrants économiques qui sont arrivés comme travailleurs qualifiés, candidats d’une province ou dans la catégorie de l’expérience canadienne.
