Abstract
Este texto apresenta um breve histórico das transformações trazidas ao Quebec pela Revolução Tranqüila e discute a relação entre as ciências sociais francófonas e as políticas de Estado nesse período, exemplificada na atuação profissional, tecnocrática, de uma intelligentsia sociológica que ocupava postos nos governos Lesage e Johnson. O argumento central é o de que as ciências sociais sofreram um processo de cisão e de fragmentação visíveis, devido certamente à difícil convergência dos muitos projetos de nação em que seus profissionais se viam envolvidos. O caso da antropologia serve como exemplo, apontando as dificuldades de compor a teoria social com as definições sobre o tema do nacionalismo. A principal hipótese apresentada aqui, portanto, é a de que a inserção social da disciplina contaminou sua performance “científica”. Assim, a cisão observada nas ciências sociais se deveu à onipresença do tema do nacionalismo e à multiplicidade de posições que engendrou. Tais posições não eram reinterpretadas à luz da teoria; o inverso é que parece ter ocorrido.
