Abstract
1 in 20 Canadians meet the criteria of an anxiety disorder, with social anxiety disorder being the most commonly occurring form (Government of Canada, 2006). As such, research is needed to help adolescents understand social anxiety (SA). The purpose of this study is to explore how adolescents use young adult literature (YAL) to understand SA. This study will address two questions: 1) how do adolescents with SA identify with the characters and experiences of SA portrayed in YAL? 2) How does the representation of socially anxious characters in YAL affect participants
