Le domaine du developpement de l’enfant et de l’adolescent est en train de prendre une nouvelle direction qui affecte la facon dont les chercheurs percoivent leur science et concoivent les facteurs du developpement social et emotionnel. Les etudes longitudinales menees depuis les annees 1970 – dont les reelles conclusions nous apparaissent aujourd’hui –, combinees aux nombreuses etudes recentes impliquant des strategies d’intervention ainsi qu’aux experiences de transfert de connaissances vers les politiques sociales et educatives, permettent de mieux comprendre la place de l’enfance et de l’adolescence dans les transformations qui ont cours chez l’humain au cours de sa vie. Participant a l’effervescence de cette periode particulierement riche pour la recherche, ce livre vient situer le domaine du developpement social et emotionnel de l’enfant et de l’adolescent et presenter les facettes les plus essentielles des connaissances, des hypotheses et des speculations qui animent les intervenants et les chercheurs. Il s’agit du premier de deux tomes reunissant des contributions de chercheurs quebecois, mais aussi canadiens, anglais, americains et francais. Il porte sur les bases du developpement, comme le temperament, la relation d’attachement, les influences genetiques et biologiques, le stress, les competences socioemotionnelles et la prosocialite, les relations avec les pairs et d’amitie ainsi que sur la coparentalite et la place du pere dans le developpement de l’enfant. Ensemble, les chapitres de ce premier tome depeignent un domaine d’une grande etendue et d’une grande complexite, en soulignant les connaissances envers lesquelles nous pouvons avoir confiance, les endroits ou nous devons faire preuve de prudence et, certainement, les questions qui demeurent. Ce livre presente les connaissances et les hypotheses qui animent le domaine du developpement social et emotionnel de l’enfant. Ce premier tome porte sur les aspects normatifs du developpement, comme le temperament, la relation d’attachement ou encore les influences genetiques et biologiques.
