Abstract
Ce mémoire s’intéresse à l’habitat de type plex, logements multifamiliaux de plusieurs étages, caractéristique du logement à Montréal. Il retrace l’histoire de ce mode d’habiter qui s’est développé du milieu du XIXe siècle au XXe siècle pour répondre à une forte demande de logements locatifs. Afin de renta¬biliser toujours plus le foncier et de mettre à disposition tou¬jours plus de logements aux migrants, des nouvelles typolo¬gies de logements apparaissent : les duplex, triplex et autres cinq-plex. Le mémoire s’intéresse aux singularités de cette typologie qui ont permis de faire perdu¬rer ces modèles, toujours appréciés aujourd’hui. Plusieurs exemples de ré¬habilitation menés par trois agences montréalaises sont également présentés.
