La recherche EVOLMOB a pour objectif de comprendre les évolutions dans le rapport à l’automobilité des jeunes générations. Plusieurs enquêtes récentes constatent que pour la première fois depuis 30 ans les jeunes passent moins le permis de conduire et proposent notamment comme pistes explicatives : le renchérissement des coûts de l’énergie, le report vers d’autres modes de transport (Delbosc, Currie, 2013), la montée des préoccupations environnementales, la nouvelle appétence pour les technologies de l’information qui dispenseraient de se déplacer autant ou permettraient de se déplacer autrement (Dutzik, Baxandall, 2013). Il s’agit donc de décrire les évolutions en matière de mobilité des jeunes, qu’il s’agisse du permis de conduire, de la possession d’un véhicule et des usages des modes de déplacements comme d’analyser les ressorts de ces évolutions au travers d’une comparaison internationale entre Lyon et Montréal.
