Abstract
O objetivo desse artigo foi analisar a movimentação turística do município de Foz do Iguaçu (PR), no período de 1983 a 2000, a partir de uma análise econométrica. O município de Foz do Iguaçu destaca-se pelo seu potencial ecológico, com o Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, onde se situa as Cataratas do Iguaçu (produto turístico tombado pela Unesco como Patrimônio Natural da humanidade) e também pelo reservatório da Usina Hidrelétrica de Itaipu (maior usina hidrelétrica do mundo), configurando, assim, um locus favorável para o desenvolvimento de atividades turísticas integradas no município e região. Para uma visão mais ampla da influência do turismo na região propôs-se uma análise econométrica englobando as variáveis: Produto Interno Bruto per capita (PIB) do município; Índice do Custo de Vida (ICV) e o total de turistas que visitaram o município no ano anterior. Contudo, observou-se que as variáveis bases influenciam direta e indiretamente nas oscilações da demanda pelo turismo no município. As análises efetuadas revelam a relação existente entre o turismo e a renda, confirmando que se trata de uma atividade bastante vinculada ao desenvolvimento econômico. Neste sentido, destaca-se que qualquer oscilação econômica no contexto global pode variar a demanda turística por um determinado atrativo mesmo que a oferta seja de certa forma compensatória, ou seja, pode-se dizer que a questão da movimentação turística no município recebe influência direta da economia mundial e/ou nacional.
