Abstract
El presente trabajo tiene como finalidad analizar los planteamientos que tiene la normativavigente en Costa Rica, en relación con la salud integral de la población adolescente, con base en la promoción de la salud y el enfoque de derechos. Se hace una descripción de esta normativa, la cual debería traducirse en estrategias viables para lograr la promoción y el desarrollo integral de la salud en este grupo poblacional. En esta descripción se identificaránaquellos elementos que se refieren a la promoción de la salud, vinculada con lo que establece la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño (cdn), firmada por Costa Rica en 1989; el Código de la Niñez y la Adolescencia (cna, vigente desde el año 1998), y la Carta de Ottawa para la Promoción de la Salud, propuesta por la Organización Mundial de la Salud, en 1986, también suscrita por Costa Rica. Se concluye con un análisis crítico sobre la contradicción que se da entre la normativa existente y la realidad con que esta población se enfrenta.
