Abstract
Este trabalho pretende analisar as relações de polissemia, sinmorfismo, alomorfia e doublets com dados obtidos em pesquisas dialetológicas sobre a variação lexical no português brasileiro contemporâneo e estabelecer comparações com os estudos sistemáticos de Soledade (2001, 2005) sobre a sufixação no português arcaico, com a intenção de: i) observar a viabilidade de estudar a variação morfológica na dialetologia; e ii) discutir a herança morfossemântica e lexical do português arcaico para o português contemporâneo, fazendo uma viagem ao passado para explicar fatos do presente e aproximando dois recortes sincrônicos sobre a língua portuguesa de épocas muito distintas.
