Abstract
Abstract This article discusses political parties and the electoral system in Canada. It provides a literature that outlines the controversies of the party system of the nation. The article discusses the one-party dominance in Canadian politics, the volatility of political parties, the policy differences among parties, the weak social foundations that result in weak policy differences, the archaic divisions, the class basis, geography, federal–provincial gaps, and multipartism. It also discusses the fractionalization of the electorate, the polarized pluralism within the cultural dimension of the nation, the weakness of NDP, class politics, and the federal–provincial divergences within the province.
