Le système de Sécurité sociale en Belgique n’a jamais dépassé son objectif d’assurer une couverture financière en cas de maladie invalidité. Son but n’a jamais été d’intervenir dans une politique de santé et il n’a jamais visé à mettre en place un service de santé organisé. On assiste donc à une prospérité du libéralisme médical et à une augmentation spectaculaire des coûts. Face à cette situation, le Syndicat socialiste F.G.T.B. revendique pour le financement des soins de santé une fiscalisation progressive du régime des soins par le biais de l’impôt sur les revenus; il exige aussi une politique de santé publique axée sur la prévention, la protection de la santé collective et une organisation sanitaire bâtie à l’échelon local du type « centre de santé » géré par les usagers et orienté vers une médecine sociale et communautaire.
