Le personnage du journaliste dans Le jardin des Plantes (1997), figuration romanesque ambivalente d’un rapport au lecteur, me fournit ici un point de départ pour observer les modèles de lecture que propose Simon dans la fiction et dans ses conférences, et pour interroger ainsi la lisibilité du montage dans ses dernières oeuvres, où l’adhésion sensible prend une place grandissante. Il s’agit toujours de faire percevoir la composition et ses harmoniques, mais en les rendant visibles, et en pariant pour cela sur les effets du montage. Dans Le jardin des Plantes et dans Le tramway (2001), le blanc des intervalles donne à voir, à interroger et à ressentir l’implicite qui surgit de ces liaisons et déliaisons.
