Abstract
La croissance du taux des familles monoparentales en France conduit à comparer leur mode de vie avec celui des familles biparentales et à s’interroger sur la pertinence de certains travaux, en particulier américains, qui voient dans la flexibilité et la variété des modèles familiaux une justification pour une nouvelle conception de la vie sociale et de la cité. Cette étude montre que les familles monoparentales françaises dont une femme est responsable voient dans l’aménagement de leur maison le moyen d’ancrer leur identité familiale et, dans la liberté de choix du quartier de résidence, celui de maintenir leur rang social. De plus, les choix en matière de nom, de repositionnement au sein des réseaux amicaux et familiaux montrent que les femmes chefs de famille monoparentale maintiennent les liens avec la famille d’origine et ravivent la tradition de l’aide intergénérationnelle.
