Abstract
A propos de la différence sexuelle, Freud écrit dans l’ Abrégé de psychanalyse : « nous nous trouvons là en face d’une grande énigme, d’un problème posé par un fait biologique ». Le problème vient de ce que le sujet humain est habité par bisexualité psychique et qu’il ne peut se résoudre à cette différence. Dans son article sur La tête de Méduse Freud démontre l’horreur qu’éprouve tout sujet humain à la vision du sexe de l’autre mais aussi la réassurance qui en résulte dès lors qu’il peut l’affronter, car c’est aussi l’occasion d’assumer et de transformer les énigmes inconscientes. Dans Le supplément au voyage de Bougainville, Diderot laisse entendre que cet affrontement prend tout son sens dès lors qu’il est aussi source de fécondité.
