Le problème de la formation politique des militants est souvent réduit à un problème de méthode : comment transférer le savoir des formateurs qui détiendraient ce savoir à des militants qui auraient tout à apprendre ? Sans nier l’importance des questions pédagogiques, l’auteur s’interroge plutôt sur la signification sociale du rapport de ceux-qui-savent à ceux-qui-ne-savent-pas. Faire de la formation, rédiger des textes, ce n’est pas seulement développer la lutte contre l’ordre capitaliste; c’est aussi créer des processus de gestion. Au-delà des questions pédagogiques, il y a la question du pouvoir social des formateurs et les formes de collusion et de résistance qu’il engendre chez les participants. Le discours des formateurs, aussi juste soit-il sur la plan politique, peut être investi d’un pouvoir social qui a pour effet de confirmer la séparation entre formateurs et militants, surtout si ce discours s’appuie principalement sur des références théoriques ou historiques. Si l’analyse des oppositions à l’intérieur d’un groupe de formation ne se réduit pas à une analyse de l’exercice du pouvoir et ne saurait remplacer une analyse politique des différents points de vue, une simple analyse des lignes politiques en présence est loin d’être suffisante pour comprendre les oppositions qui se manifestent.
